Update

I honestly havent had time to even think about what to do with this web page but I figured I'd at least post an update. Hard drives are being copied. It takes 22 hours to copy and byte for byte verify the whole drive, so I generally get one every other day done. Several batches have been mailed out. I have 3 done and 2 waiting, and when they are done I will make another trip to the post. If you asked for individual DVD's early on you probably already have them. If you asked late in July I have been focusing on the drives and cant burn and drive copy at the same time. If you were worried you waited too long, just email me and ask. Until I reach a point where everyone has their stuff and I have nothing else to do, I will be happy to ad your request to the que. Just be patient.

LAST CALL...

LAST CALL. Sorry for the almost 18 month absence. 10 years ago this started as an idea, and really almost an obsessions, to find a good copy of URGH!. It eventually became a rather time consuming and elaborate hobby that in some aspects spanned the whole world. It certainly became far more than I originally anticipated. For all the kind words and support over the years, I thank all of you. Life has changed for me over the past year or two, and the combination of complexity, lack of time, and new concerns has imply left me both without time to continue, and less enthusiastic about spending the little free time I have in this direction. I've been wrestling with the idea now for a while and tell myself I'm going to spend some time working on a new video or two, but never manage. The real tolling of the death bell was the official release of Urgh by Sony. It sort of marked a point in my head where the goal of sorts had been achieved. Rather than become another one of the dead internet pages that proffers enticing ideas but delivers nothing, I figured I owed it to everyone to who cared to clean up shop a bit. So here it is. Last Call: If there's anything on the DVD list you want, email me at antisoshal@antisoshal.com (mailto:antisoshal@antisoshal.com) to find out how to get them. I haven't been good about answering request emails lately because I wasn't sure exactly how I would handle them. EVERYONE will get a reply. This is your last chance to get anything from me. On August first, this web page will be replaced by something else. I will NOT be creating any new DVD's. 10 years and thousands of hours of screen time have passed. I have an entire 1/3 of my basement filled with piles of disks, equipment and cables. It's time for me to move on. I haven't quite decided what I will do with this domain, but it wont be what you see now. I will also permanently delete the account list and the mailing list. I will save NO INFORMATION whatsoever. Its possible I may maintain the original list of DVD's as an archive on the new page, but I'm not sure what purpose that would serve in the long run. Once again, if you want it, ask now. Have a 1.5 terabyte USB hard drive, understand what to do with ISO disc images, and want ALL OF THEM? Ask me. I'm not going to do custom collections of disk images because that's a LOT of work and time and I expect the demand would overwhelm me, so it will be all or nothing. Ask me for details before assuming anything. I'm not giving out disc imaging software and technical support. If anyone out there wants to torrent this stuff for all eternity, go for it. I would only ask that you don't down convert the quality too much to save space or bandwidth. I put a lot of work in making these the best I could and when I see them turned into Mpeg1 VCD that look worse than the original tape I get disappointed that the effort was lost. Disc drives are stunningly cheap now and no one uses modems anymore. If you cant spend the time and space, then its not worth getting. If I have any of your tapes or owe you anything, contact me. If you were a member of any of the bands and want a copy (you'd be surprised how many times I hear this) because you haven't seen it in 20 years and can't get a copy from whomever “owns” it, email me. In particular, if you were in Futurama and I haven't given you a copy, let me know. Any artists that created the history and culture we love are the heroes here. I'm just a nerd that has been obsessing over it. LAST CALL. gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found a friend...Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

URGH! on DVD NOW! and other important news.

Its been a LONG time since the last update, and while the news for me isnt particularly good, the news for music lovers seems to always be getting better. URGH! Is now available on DVD! Mind you, its not what one might have hoped for, but its the best yet. Warner Brothers has decided to release Urgh! With one song missing (amazingly, NOT Gary Numan, but Splidgeness Abounds) as part of its On Demand system. You pay 20$, they send you a DVD-R. The good news is the sound and video are a vast improvement over my edition and all of the others I've seen. The bad news is its NOT a film re-master, but simply a digital transfer made from what WB called “The best available video copy”. A source in WB tells me that the decision to do this was based on some legal precedence that defines digital copies of broadcast material under broadcast, and not digital distribution. Under this direction, the DVD comes with basic 10 minute chapter marks, rather than by song. Effectively, they are selling you a bootleg copy of the version they own the broadcast and VHS rights, and hoping no one will lawyer up on them. T o be honest, I wouldnt take that bet, and I'm buying a copy and keeping it backed up 5 ways. Its entirely possible that they havent even contacted Copeland about it. That is the media company way. Have your lawyer get permission later. I would encourage everyone who loves Urgh! To buy a copy. This is our part of this deal. WE love it, and now that we can pay SOMEONE for the product, we should. http://www.wbshop.com/Urgh+-A-Music-War-+EST-MOD/1000112990,default,pd.html (http://www.wbshop.com/Urgh+-A-Music-War-+EST-MOD/1000112990,default,pd.html) This also seems like a good moment to look back on 8 years of this and realize that the world iscatching up and its time to move on. With the development of on demand purchase, eventually almost everything stored everywhere will be available for a price. On top of that, I've just grown too busy to keep up the work, and as anyone whos been watching knows, its been a LONG time since I've added anything to the list. Financial limitations have required long work hours and travel. IN addition, some experimentation divulged the fact that the computers I was using to do this work were using as much as 40$ a month in electricity. I wont say that there will be no more new videos, because I'm sure there eventually will. Just not at the pace there once was. I just dont have the time to dedicate to this anymore, and I think the chances of something I've spent 20 hours working on suddenly appearing for sale legitimately in a month makes that a losing proposition for me in most cases. I will not be removing the list (as of now), and you can still ask me about getting copies of anything listed. It just wont be a work in progress so much as a record of work accomplished. I will also update the front page whenever something on the list gets an official release. For example, you can get am official IMPORT only release of Thomas Dolby's videos here: http://www.amazon.com/Singular-Thomas-Dolby-DVD-Remastered/dp/B001PSQFZU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8 s=music qid=1251772102 sr=8-3 (http://www.amazon.com/Singular-Thomas-Dolby-DVD-Remastered/dp/B001PSQFZU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8 s=music qid=1251772102 sr=8-3) and you can find the remastered Golden Age Of Wireless that includes the concert video Live Wireless here: http://www.amazon.com/Golden-Age-Wireless-Remastered-Expanded/dp/B00288AXL8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 s=music qid=1251772102 sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.com/Golden-Age-Wireless-Remastered-Expanded/dp/B00288AXL8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 s=music qid=1251772102 sr=8-1) A word of warning however: As more and more things become legitimately available, this list has the potential to become a liability to me, so it may not be here forever, and as such I may not be able to honor requests forever.
